Oshawa, ON Polar Bear Express DXpedition!

Due to Popular Demand - CW!

We have had several people ask us about the use of CW on our trip. We discussed this at our recent meeting and decided that we would indeed run CW part of the time on the train, the station and the island. We have not set a frequency yet but will have all that for you in the next update

Wow! 6 meters too!

Again, due to popular demand, we will be using 6m while on Akimiski Island (VE8 territory) as well as at the train station in Moosonee (VE3 territory)

Akimiski Island Callsign - VE8A

It has been confirmed that the station on Akimiski Island will be using VE8A (VE8 = Northwest Territories designation) as a callsign. Since this is the first time this island will be activated an IOTA number has not been assigned and will not be assigned by IOTA until 50 contacts have been made. I guess we will stop at that point and obtain the IOTA number from the officials.

Akimiski Island Info
Lat - 53 00 00 N
Long - 81 20 00

Toronto Star Article

Doug Ibbotson, VE3WTI, will be writing an article about our trip which will be published in the July 28 Sunday edition in the "People" section, four days before we depart. There will be about 7,000 words of info in there about our trip including frequencies so Ham's and SWL's will be able to find us as well as a picture of part of our team. While we are up there Doug will be sending articles down daily and they may be published if space permits.

DXpedition Team - you can also send mail to myself via the following methods:
